CBS was presented in 2002 when the new 7-SERIES model was released and is currently a standard component on most new BMWs. It was intended to offer an adaptable maintenance schedule for your vehicle. Instead of using fixed times and distances to decide when servicing is required, CBS assembles data from sensors fitted around the vehicle and tells you which parts need consideration. This stops unnecessary replacement of parts and maximizes their use. The parts supported varies between models depending on the specification and engine type, but they fall into two main groups:
Sensor based:
- Diesel Particulate filter – Monitored by the DME/DDE engine control module
- Front brake pads – Monitored by the DSC stability control module
- Rear brake pads – Monitored by the DSC stability control module
- Micro filter/pollen filter
- Engine oil- monitored by the DME/DDE engine control module
Internally calculated components:
- Spark plugs
- Brake fluid
- Instrument cluster
- User interface
